Location is a major benefit for industries in Eagle Pass. Situated on the U.S.-Mexico border opposite our sister city of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Eagle Pass has international customers and suppliers who are just a quick trip away across two vehicular bridges and a rail bridge. Our commercial trade, logistics, and tourism businesses are stimulated by growth and prosperity happening across the border.

These industries below are particularly primed for additional growth.

Logistics/Distribution/Warehousing

With its prime location at the U.S.-Mexico border, Eagle Pass is ideal for logistics and international trade organizations. Because of proximity, industry in Mexico can spur business in Eagle Pass. The opening of a Modelo brewery in our sister city of Piedras Negras, Mexico, stimulated warehousing needs and other related distribution center services in Eagle Pass for their product. Eagle Pass is also a major warehouser and exporter of motor vehicle parts.

Eagle Pass sits on the transportation corridor that connects major trade ports in Mexico, like Monterrey and Nava, to U.S. cities, like San Antonio and Houston. Transportation options are multimodal. By land, US Hwys 57 and 277 connect to I-35 and Union Pacific has an international rail bridge. The City has the second busiest international train crossing on the Texas-Mexico border from Brownsville to El Paso. By air, Maverick County Memorial International Airport has daily flights to Mexico. Additionally, The City of Eagle Pass is the authorized grantee for Foreign Trade Zone No. 96 allowing companies to realize benefits in regards to duties and tariffs.

Companies like Frito-Lay, Bravo and MicroStar Logistics already benefit from the location advantages of Eagle Pass. In particular, MicroStar is located in the Logistics Industry Development Area off of El Indio Highway. Companies looking to relocate have room to expand in this area, and Eagle Pass is actively dedicated to providing the infrastructure companies need.

Tourism

Eagle Pass’ border location makes it a natural Texas tourism star. Eagle Pass’ retail industry is driven in part by Mexican consumers who cross daily to shop and buy American products. Texans are drawn to Eagle Pass for a little “taste of Mexico” on American soil. The City’s 300 Block Art and Entertainment District is a popular destination.

Tourism has also grown due to the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, one of only two casinos in Texas. The Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel is owned and operated by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, a federally recognized Native American tribe.

Manufacturing

A leader in technologies, Texas is a popular destination for the world's most innovative manufacturing companies and Eagle Pass has the commercial sites those companies need. The Highway 57 Development Area — already home to Mavericks Arms that assembles and distributes Mossberg shotguns  —  has a Union Pacific Railway spur and land for development. Additional sites can be found in the Industrial Park Boulevard Development Area and the Logistics Industry Development Area.

Eagle Pass Economic Development is ready to connect manufacturers with commercial developers who can meet their facility needs quickly. Once facilities are built, Eagle Pass has the available workforce ready to be employed.
